Born in the Champagne region in 1949, Bertrand discovers sculpture in 1972.
Self-taught since 1976, the influence of Roman Art is reflected in his work through tender and naive characters until 1991. That's when he entered a turning point in his career, Inspired by the works of Moore, Arp and Brancusi, his wood and bronze sculptures take on more contemporary forms. In 1998, he discovers marble sculpture, more specifically black marble from Belgium, his favourite medium. This material allows him to search for new lines and forms and to developp his cubic work in contrast with the roundness so characteristic of his actual work.
